今週の土曜日、ようやくファンタジスタトーストマスターズクラブに参加することができました。スケジュール調整の結果、参加できる回がなんと偶然にも田村直樹さんの5時間ワークショップの回。タイトルは「ハーバードビジネススクールでやってるリーダーシップの授業」でした。

This Saturday, I finally got to participate in the Fantasista Toastmasters Club. As a result of my schedule adjustment, TM Naoki Tamura's 5 hour workshop came to me by chance. The title was "A leadership classroom session at Harvard Business School".

映画「頭上の敵機」を見ながら、主人公のサベージ准将になりきり、自分だったらどう行動するか、というシミュレーションを通じて、状況に応じたリーダーシップを学ぶというもの。このセッションに参加できて、ラッキーでした。

While watching the movie 'Twelve O'Clock High', we will be asked to play the role of the main character, Brig. Gen. Savage, and learn leadership through the situational simulation of what we will do if we were him. I was lucky to be able to participate in this session.

今回の内容は、個人的に特別なものでした。私は、登場人物の一人であるキース・ダベンポート大佐と同じ状況を、実際の職場で経験したことがあります。キースのように部下をかばうあまりに、上層部と軋轢が生じ、解任に至る、という過去の経験。その経験から脱却をするという課題に個人的に取り組んでいた昨今、キースの親友で上司でもある、主人公フランク・サベージ准将なら、どうするのか、を考えるというのは大変有意義でした。自分にとっては、まさにタイムリーな内容で、ワークショップを通じて熟考させていただきました。

The content of this workshop was personally special. I have experienced the same situation as Colonel Keith Davenport, one of the characters, in my actual workplace. I have an experience that I protected my team members to extraordinary extent as Keith, which caused conflict with the senior management and led to my dismissal. Recently I was working on overcoming that experience. It was a very meaningful thing for me to think about what to do if I were the main character, Frank Savage, who was Keith 's best friend and supervisor. It was just timely content for me, and I thought deeply through this workshop.
